I Love Yoga But. . .


I consider myself to be living a lifestyle similar to many yogi’s, but I don’t practice yoga every day! There is a different kind of revolution happening. . . If you are like me, you enjoy yoga. . . but may also feel yoga doesn’t give you everything you desire in a movement practice. I’ve always liked to experienced different things I’ve never been one to follow the latest trends, but I keep my finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the world of movement. I like to discover unique experiences I enjoy the ‘thought’ of attending a yoga class and usually feel good doing class, but often when I am ‘in’ it I wish I could move and flow more I love what yoga is about, what it represents, the philosophy, but it just doesn’t tick all the boxes for me (my truth) I love when I am discovering new things that are a bit different, a little left of centre, more niche I like to expand my mind, to find what is true for me, and not just follow the latest ‘must do’ or ‘must have’ Being part of a ‘tribe’ never really appeals to me, I enjoy being a visionary, and inspirator of my own What I do doesn’t have a ‘label’ and I like that. It’s different.

My love is dance, but when I tell people I am a dancer they often have a ‘running script’ or preconception of what that actually means. Growing up in the UK and dancing from the age of three, I know what the dance world represents for many people. I did various styles of dancing (ballet, jazz, modern etc) for over 30 years. Many people believe they can’t dance and therefore don’t enjoy taking a class, and having to follow certain steps/choreography. I get this, when you usually go to a dance class you follow the teacher and have to perfect the sequence of steps!! Off putting for many people, even for me, who had over 20 years of professional dance training!

A dance class can feel like a competitive environment, not particularly nurturing Often a yoga studio feels more welcoming, more zen, than a dance studio Sometimes you may feel you have to have the ‘perfect’ body and outfit just to be able to show up to a dance class! What I do now is not this

What I do now is teach a conscious dance movement practice. It’s a guided movement experience with re-connects people to their body intelligence, authenticity, and spiritual nature. It’s roots are closer to a yogic experience then to modern / contemporary dance. It’s UNIQUE and so describing it is often difficult…it has to be experienced and felt in the body. What I do is. . . None competitive It’s provides you with an opportunity to have an intimate conversation with yourself, so that you can get to know who you really are You are invited to observe yourself without judgment You do not have to be a ‘dancer’. . . just someone who enjoys moving to great soul-searching, uplifting music (music which covers every musical genres) There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way of doing or non-doing

There are some simple steps/choreography and I give you plenty of time to figure it out I provide a nurturing, loving, sacred and safe space for exploration Freedom to explore your boundaries and levels of comfort A place to let go of any inner struggles or conflicts you may have about yourself

and the list continues. . . Nowadays there are so many yoga studios popping up everywhere. Just 15-20 years ago, yoga wasn’t as popular in the Western world as it is today. It is certainly a time of a yoga revolution, and more and more people are benefiting from a yogic lifestyle. There is a world that exists that feels similar to yoga but offers you the opportunity to move in an alternative way, stimulating creativity, freedom and soulfulness.

We are energy bodies and when we dance, energy moves and flows more quickly through our body, responses become more spontaneous and imaginative, and movement patterns becomes truly authentic. This creates meaning and insight. Authentic movement is externalised movement in alignment with inner sensing. It’s a profound and deeply personal movement experience. I believe there is no swifter, truer way for someone to reach his/her fullest growth potential than through a conscious dance movement practice. You will not find what I teach everywhere, its very niche, and that's also it's beauty. But in my experience yogi’s love it!
