When was the last time you stopped and listened to your heart?
I mean physically STOPPED what you are doing, put your hands on your heart, closed your eyes, listened to, and felt the beating of your heart?
We can all tend to spend a lot of time inside our heads, and while it is wonderful to have active, creative minds, our minds also need to learn when to STOP.
What makes your heart sing? What do you LOVE? What makes you happy? What makes you feel alive?
Do you know the answers to these questions?
Maybe you do and that is wonderful, but if you are currently feeling like your life is going no where, that you don’t know what your next step is, or you have found yourself living a life that you never envisioned for yourself, then please read on, I am so glad you are reading this. . . (if you know someone who is in this situation in life and who could benefit from this post then please share with your friends, colleagues, and loved ones)
Here you are, living a life that you never envisioned for yourself. How did you get here?
Maybe you feel you have changed as a person due to a relationship you are in, a breakdown of a marriage, a career choice, after experiencing a trauma. There are of course so many reasons, but ultimately you can experience many mixed feelings, such as depression, frustration, or anxiety when you realise things are not flowing in your life as you would like or had hoped.
I am movement guide, I use the practice of conscious dance/ somatic movement to facilitate experiences to guide my clients into dropping down our of their heads and connecting with their bodies. I encourage and guide clients to have an intimate movement conversation (the dance intimate) with themselves about themselves. To observe themselves from a place of non-judgment as a way to gather information about themselves. To pay attention to their bodies, their movement tendencies, tracking any tension/pain (and also pleasure) in their bodies, listening to their body sensations, noticing their thoughts (what thoughts are showing up during the movement experience) and paying attention to their emotions, and the choices they make moment to moment. The object (at first) is not to observe and figure it all out, it’s about first gathering the information, observing without judging, as a way to get to know themselves a little better. The understanding evolves as the sessions continue, each session layering and going deeper each time.
The movement sessions are extremely therapeutic, dance movement therapy rooted in a yogic philosophy. Aligning our body, with our mind, emotions and spirit. What I do (dance) in the studio is not separate from my life outside the studio. Whatever is going on in my life I invite it into the studio and dance with it, get to know it, find clarity, release it, balance it…. what ever is required. We are energy, and as we move the body and dance, we start to unravel the energy, so healing and profound realisations naturally being to emerge. Dance Movement Therapy is an interesting way into our inner world.
By projecting feelings into space through the body, the movements become communicative. Through movement my clients can connect and reveal their inner lives. An emphasis on bringing expression back to it’s somatic reality (or source of the body). Dance is our natural tool for reuniting mind, emotions, and body.
When we get to know ourselves better we make better decisions and choices for our lives. I believe this is “FACT"
Whatever you have suppressed, ignored, or forgotten within yourself can come to the surface in order to be understood, gain clarity with, heal, and learn from.
So my invitation is for you today it to choose a piece of music that you LOVE. That piece of music that gives you chills.
Put the music on. Firstly, stand with your feet together in stillness, place your left hand (feminine) on your chest at your heart centre, and then place your right hand (masculine) over your left hand, close your eyes and FEEL your heart. Feel this connection through touch, listen and FEEL the strength of your heart beat. This life force energy within you, the rhythm of life! Spend some time just FEELING this connection…..and ask yourself. When was the last time you stopped and listened to your heart?
Do you have a question you wish to ask your heart? Now is the time. . .
Then when you feel ready, start to pay attention to the music around you, and see if you find a beat in the music that matches the beating of your heart. Heart Beat matching the Musical Beat Then in your own time and space, open your eyes and begin to MOVE from this part of your body (from your heart centre). Begin slowly and softly and isolate your rib cage, and the mid section of your spine as a way to stimulate your heart centre. MOVE in loving ways and allow the movement to expand to all parts of your body, radiating from your heart centre. MOVE IN LOVING WAYS, be kind to yourself and pay attention to what feels good, what feels good in your heart.
DANCE and let the music touch your heart. The dancer that is moved by the music is a different dancer than the one who just moves to the music.
BE MOVED BY THE MUSIC.
As you dance ask your heart what it knows to be your next step in your life’s journey. . .?
Recognise what that is, Acknowledge it, Forgive yourself and TAKE the step (create the action) so you can move forward with new purpose.
Let’s be moved by the exploration of self…..
